Jehovah Jireh
In December a friend shared something from a devotional with me. I didn’t have time to read it right away, but when Elijah and I went on for a short break, I had time to read it and meditate a bit on it. It was about Genesis 22, where Abraham has to offer his son and how the Lord faithfully provided that ram. After this Abraham called this mountain The Lord Will Provide. It struck me, the Lord will provide. Something we have seen so often in the past, but still I have so often doubts or worries about the future. I highlighted the verse, The Lord Will Provide. And I wrote next to it, Jehovah Jireh, as that is the Name in Hebrew.
A few days later is was 1st of January and we had a church service to bless in the new year. As we had the scripture reading I was thrilled to hear that it was from Genesis 22… Again God wanted me to focus on one of His Names; Jehovah Jireh. We do not always hear His voice so clear or so often. But this one was so clear and even more when two days later someone shared on social media a very short message; ‘God will provide, God will supply, wherever he Has placed you.’
As I become sometimes overwhelmed and sad if I see what is all happening in this world, I need to remember this and focus on it. Guard my thoughts and my heart. God knows and sees what is happening, how people are suffering and struggling, how many are sick, depressed, hungry, in pain and in need. I cannot change it all and I don’t have to! But I have to do that, what God is asking me to do, at the place where He has brought me. And then and there God will provide! Not maybe… but He will we are assured of that.
If I look back at all the times we were struggling and sometimes desperate searching for God’s will, His provision, guidance… It didn’t always come at what I thought would have been the best time. Sometimes it was much later, but it was always the best time. God has brought us from so far and we have seen how He has provided for us, day by day, week by week and year by year.
And therefore, we shall not fear, because Jehovah Jireh is going ahead of us, even in 2022!
